More than just a nostalgia act, this film offers a wholesome good time for the entire family. Whether you are new to the world of the Muppets or a long time fan, this is a movie that is thoroughly enjoyable by all. This film will be an instant classic and as from my experience watching it in a jam packed theater early on a Saturday morning I can attest, everyone who went loved it. Although set in the present time, the movie is very campy and takes good cues from its predecessors as to what works giving it a genuine Muppet feel. The movie has some funny moments, and some sad ones too, but it ends with a warm happy feeling which is very rare in most movies these days, I guess it could be said that this is a sweet little film.
The plot is pretty straight forward, and we get to meet all of our favorite Muppets again, this film gets some shine from plenty of Hollywood cameos, and even the introduction of a new character Walter. One issue though is the two human leads played by Jason Segel and Amy Adams seem to get outshined or are intentionally playing second fiddle throughout the entire movie, giving their side plot no room to prosper and seeming pointless at moments. Makes me wonder why even have them in the movie at all if they were treated in such a way, had it been just the Muppet and Jack Black, the audience would’ve been just as pleased in my opinion. The movie mostly revolves around Kermit and Walter and trying to save the studio from being torn down, and while there are some colorful numbers and a montage, some characters get little screen time, making the commercials that were made for this movie seem more entertaining.
Overall the movie is highly entertaining and just simply fun to watch even with the nuances mentioned. Hopefully this will bring the characters back into the mainstream since their last outing, much like the Chipmunks, but that will have to be seen. I highly recommend watching it and even more so if you have children as its probably one of the best family films of the year.
